I started TheCareerGrid because I kept watching the same thing happen.
Talented people, with strong track records, who spent years doing the hard work were invisible when they decided to pivot or move on. Constantly overlooked and waiting for someone to notice them in organisations that were never going to.
I know this because that was me. But no more.
I spent 15+ years in recruitment and HR. I sat on hundreds of interview panels. I watched how hiring decisions actually get made, and I can tell you, it rarely goes to the best person in the pile.
It goes to the person who’s already known, already trusted, already on someone’s radar and sometimes, using someone else’s reputation to their advantage.
That used to frustrate me, but now I do something about it.
The person I built this for isn’t hard to describe. I’ve met them hundreds of times and it’s likely you too.
They’re really good at what they do. They work hard, they deliver, they’re the person their team relies on, and they’re furious that none of it seems to be getting them anywhere.
They’ve been told their work speaks for itself, but they now know that it doesn’t. Not anymore and definitely not in this market.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me early enough in my own career.
Although your employer might value you, they are still running a business, not building YOUR future.
Staying loyal to a company while your career stands still is NOT dedication, it is costing you.
How many times have you seen someone with less skills and experience than you get ahead? I know you know what I mean.
Those people don’t wait to be discovered, they make themselves visible before they need it.
They move when it’s time to move.
They back themselves.
I learnt this the hard way (and I am always still learning!)
Now I help others skip this part.
